The Montezuma Heritage Museum approved as an Enterprise Zone Contribution Project

For Immediate Release:

Montezuma Heritage Museum was approved as an Enterprise Zone Contribution Project by the State Economic Development Commission (EDC) in July. This designation allows Region 9 donors of $150 or more to claim a 25% State tax credit and a 12.5% State tax credit on in-kind donations. This credit is in addition to the Federal tax deduction for contributing to any 501 (c)(3) organization.

The Montezuma Heritage Museum, which just opened its doors in late 2022, seeks to be a visitor attraction highlighting the area’s pioneer history including interactive exhibits from blacksmithing and heritage tourism around agriculture to a meeting and art space.

Jeff Brown, Montezuma Heritage Museum Director, said, “I understand that the enterprise zone is a great mechanism to sustain the museum, but also helps local businesses and donors. I look forward to working with Region 9 to continue to invest in the community.”

Brown states that the Museum will use EZ funds to expand staff and programming as it gets up and running.  Currently, only 22 EZ projects are designated in Southwest Colorado. A list of eligible Enterprise Zone projects and program information is available at the Region 9 website.
